The Top 10 Memes of the Formula 1 2020 Turkish Grand Prix
As Formula 1 kicks off 2020’s Asian leg, the teams found that 9 years after they left, running wasn’t as simple as planned.
This of course is excellent for us fans, as when the drivers and teams are pushed harder mistakes happen, egos are bruised and the meme mill has a field day.
Here are our top 10 memes from the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix.

Though he’s experienced a fall from grace due to his skill (or lack thereof) in wheel to wheel combat, on a day when almost everyone else had some kind of spin, Vettel showed why he’s got his name 4 times on the Champion’s trophy.
This meme embodies that.

Number 2 on our list addresses the online reaction to Seb’s podium. It was deafening, if you can describe a mass posting of memes in adulation as that. We could have filled this list twice over with memes championing the 4-time champion. This one earned its place on this list because we can’t turn down Monty Python.

A throwback to the last race that unfortunately works on a lot of levels for Racing Point. The last two races have had poorly timed strategy calls cost both drivers big points finishes which they need in a midfield battle as tight as this one.

Like my experience collating these memes, another Vettel meme appeared. We kid, but this must have been Leclerc’s reaction as Sebastian swept past in a nail-biting move which saw him claim a deserved podium.

A performance that definitively showed why Lewis Hamilton is, and I cannot believe I’ve seen the day I get to say this and it deserves a new sentence.
A 7 Time Formula 1 World Champion.
His drive was undeniably one embodying what he has become, echoing the performance foretelling the fact that Schumacher’s lofty benchmark could be equalled.

It speaks to the inevitably, in recent years at least, of Hamilton’s achievement that this seemed to be what most memers were saying about Turkey.

I remember the days when corporate Twitter accounts could barely spell the word joke, let alone get in on the memes. It is however refreshing to see the champions put their tongues in their cheeks and take a jab back at those who doubted the legality of the Racing Point.

As it’s been floating around the internet for some time, the inspiration for this has often had me thinking “It’d work in the dry but in the wet I’m not so sure”. Luckily for Lewis, that late rain shower never transpired and he got to roll into the pits with tyres that’d have the police handing out a hefty fine.

I imagine the person who thought this up was very proud of themselves as it’s very clever. However if (and it’s not a big if) that 94 increases we’ll be seeing a lot of this sort of thing.

This one makes me seriously wonder whether Charles was told he finished 4th? I’ve seen less explosive reactions from drivers who shunted their cars at 180mph. Ferrari even scored the highest of any team in Turkey with a 3rd and 4th place.
Whether or not he knew, he clearly wasn’t happy and I only hope it doesn’t damage his confidence because being passed by a champion is no crime in conditions that treacherous.
